Sarah Berger

Sarah’s Story

Sarah received an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder. After graduation, she enrolled in CUTeach and completed the necessary course work to earn her teaching credential in science. She received her first teaching job in 2013 at Clayton Valley Charter High School in Concord CA and was accepted as a Knowles fellow. The professionalism, fun and work ethic she experienced working with her mentors and colleagues at Knowles helped her to persevere through a tough first five years in the profession. In 2018 she became National Board Certified and joined the staff at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo CA where she gets to work everyday with her best friend, fellow 2013 Knowles Fellow Chris Lipski. She has held a variety of roles such as a teacher mentor, instructional coach, writing coach, department chair, instructional lead, etc. Now that she’s a mom of two, she’s happy to just teach and works every year to do a little less extra so that she can be deeply present with her students during the school day and deeply present with her family outside of school hours. She would like to thank all fellow educators who work with young people in any capacity for their efforts, their vulnerability and their insight. You matter. This matters.
