Once again, we find ourselves grieving senseless murders and violence in our country. Over the past year, in the midst of an historical global pandemic, crimes against Asians have increased substantially. Last week, eight residents of Atlanta were murdered, including six women of Asian descent, further deepening the fear, anger and sadness felt by members of the AAPI community. We know that many members of our community are struggling to process this trauma. Those of you in classrooms are likely struggling to help your students process as well, in a year that has already demanded so much of you and them. There are no words that can minimize this pain but we stand with the AAPI community and with educators everywhere who are working to build the equitable and just schools we want for our country.
