A teacher’s role in society is that of a guide. I think teachers are the ones responsible for presenting students with knowledge, teaching them how to use said knowledge to solve problems and then passing them the baton so they can do the same for others.”
Monique’s Story
Teaching Discipline
Biology
Why Biology
“I chose this field of science as my teaching discipline because I am passionate about it and teaching something you are not passionate about would defeat the purpose of teaching science at all. I believe science can be a source of empowerment for students.”
Professional Experience
Monique has taught High School Earth Science and Biology for six years at International High School at Langley Park serving students who have recently arrived to the U.S. She is now teaching 7th grade Life Science and 8th grade Physical Science at Patuxent Valley Middle School which is closer to home.
Hobbies
Monique enjoys creating art in many forms including pottery and crochet. “ I really enjoy pottery because it is a symbol of life, in order to create something beautiful or practical you cannot force it just like you cannot force clay to become a pot, you have to gently guide it so that it forms the shape then patiently let it dry so that you can gently shape it again”.
