A teacher’s role is to connect with, educate, and impact their students so that they are better prepared to do the same with others and change the world.”

Dominic’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Mathematics

Why Mathematics

Math is often presented as abstract, incredibly difficult, and done in a ‘value-free’ space, whereas I completely disagree on all those fronts and deeply believe that math is impactful, accessible, and is always used in the real world to push social and political agendas. Therefore, I chose to teach math to empower my students to see themselves as successful in a math learning space, and also empower them to use mathematics to affect the larger world.”

Professional Experience

In 2021, Dominic was named a Penn Fellow, which allowed him to pursue his master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania while gaining teaching experience. He taught for two years at Northfield Mount Hermon School, a boarding school in Massachusetts, during his time as a graduate student. Dominic taught Algebra 2, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra. He also had the opportunity to teach a seminar called Diversity and Social Justice several times. Additionally, he coached various sports teams at Northfield Mount Hermon, and monitored dorm/residential life.

Dominic will begin his first year of teaching mathematics as the teacher of record at The Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey, during the 2023–2024 school year.
