AI Essentials for Educators Course
Artificial intelligence is rapidly shaping the landscape of education, raising both opportunities and challenges for teachers and students. This course supports educators in developing a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence and how it is currently being used in and beyond the classroom. Participants will explore how AI systems work, including large language models, while engaging in hands-on activities that build confidence in evaluating AI outputs and using AI tools responsibly.
Through collaborative exploration and discussion, participants will examine ethical considerations such as bias, misinformation, and academic integrity, and consider how these issues impact teaching and learning. Educators will also explore practical strategies for leveraging AI in their professional practice, including lesson planning, communication, and redesigning student learning tasks. By the end of the course, participants will have developed a deeper understanding of AI’s capabilities and limitations, expand their own AI literacy, and will leave with strategies for thoughtfully integrating AI into their work while supporting student AI literacy.
Highlights:
- Develop a foundational understanding of what artificial intelligence is and how it is currently used in everyday contexts and education
- Critically analyze and evaluate AI inputs, outputs, and responses to better understand the capabilities and limitations of AI tools
- Examine and apply principles of ethical and responsible AI use, including considerations of bias, accuracy, and academic integrity
- Explore practical strategies for leveraging AI to support teaching, planning, communication, and redesigning classroom tasks or learning activities in response to AI
