I want to help students learn the skills they need to be critical thinkers so that they may see, understand, and appreciate the natural sciences and how they can be applied to their everyday lives.”

Sam’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Chemistry

Why Chemistry

“I fell in love with chemistry very early on. This discipline has helped me to understand the inner workings of the natural world and how it is applied to society today. I have always viewed chemistry as another world beneath our own that has been working to allow us to live, advance, and thrive in our own macroscopic way.”

Professional Experience

Sam has been teaching introductory, general, and AP Chemistry at Two Rivers High School since the fall of 2021. In addition to his educational career, Sam worked as a site supervisor for a nonprofit youth career readiness program called Tree Trust, an organization that gives hands-on work experience for youth ages 14–21 in construction projects and landscaping services, providing them with opportunities for professional development.

Sam will begin his third year of teaching chemistry at Two Rivers High School in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, during the 2023–2024 school year.

Hobbies

In his free time, Sam enjoys staying active by playing soccer, frisbee golf, hiking and running, camping, swimming, and coaching high school soccer.
