Saloni Mittal

I became a high school math teacher to make math more accessible to students. My goal is to transform math into a subject that inspires pride and confidence, rather than the fear that is all too common.

Saloni’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Math

Why Math

I chose math because I enjoy the subject, especially finding patterns and trends. I also chose this discipline because I often hear that math is the reason people don’t pursue careers in STEM. I want to work on reducing that barrier and providing equal opportunity for all students in whichever career they wish to pursue.

Professional Experience

Before becoming a teacher, Saloni worked as a business analyst at Capital One, helping improve a program that helped customers who weren’t able to pay their credit card bills. While in her Master’s program, Saloni student taught at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California. There she taught Algebra 1 and AP Calculus BC.

In her first full year teaching, Saloni taught Math Course 1 and Precalculus at Oceana High School.

Saloni will start her second year teaching at Oceana High School in Pacifica, California, teaching Math Course 1 and AP Calculus AB in the 2024-2025 school year.

In her free time, Saloni loves trying new hobbies. She is currently learning pottery and trying out softball. She also loves spending time outdoors and with friends.
