Teaching has given me the opportunity to create experiences and memories with students who are in such an exciting and open-ended period of their lives. Watching students grow up and work towards understanding where they fit in the world is beyond special.”

Mediha’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Biology

Why Biology

“My high school AP Biology class was the first time I felt challenged and intrigued about the content and experiences I was having in class. Biology scratches my intellectual itch in the right way—I feel challenged, excited, and open to being creative.”

Professional Experience

During her undergraduate studies, Mediha completed her thesis on microscopic nematode worms, studying fertilization rates. She worked for her graduate university as a tutor, teaching genetics, microbiology, and human physiology.

Mediha will begin her second year of teaching biology at Fraser High School in Fraser, Michigan, during the 2023–2024 school year.

Hobbies

In her free time, Mediha enjoys journaling and the practice of mindful reflection. She additionally enjoys engaging in conversation surrounding these topics, such as discussing productivity tools. Mediha is fascinated by the idea of teaching not just humans, but animals as well. Currently, she is attempting to teach her cat to communicate via buttons in Bosnian, her first language!
