Each student’s definition of success may be different, but it is the role of the teacher to do what they can to help each student reach their goal.”

Kyle’s Story

Chemistry and Biology

Why Science

“Science has always been a passion of mine. I was a typical science-obsessed kid who wanted to be an astronaut or paleontologist and make new discoveries about space or ancient animals. That passion turned into a desire to learn as much as I could about a variety of science topics. When I began college and had to choose which science I would focus on, I settled on biochemistry and the fascinating way that inanimate chemicals come together to make all of the wondrous forms of life we see on this planet.”

Professional Experience

Kyle has formal and informal teaching experience. His informal experience includes volunteering as a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher. As a Lego Robotics instructor with Bricks4Kidz, he prepared lessons and materials for students ranging in age from six to 13. At the University of Puget Sound, he worked as a tutor, a lab course assistant, and a grader. Through this work, he uncovered a passion for helping his peers learn new concepts. This discovery led him to pursue teaching as a career.

Kyle will begin his second year of teaching at Curtis Senior High School during the 2021–2022 school year.

Volunteer Experience

Kyle volunteers with his church and the American Cancer Society. He also advises his school’s environmental club, Tabletop Gaming and Dungeons & Dragons Club, and National Honor Society chapter.
