Janice Balogh

“Classroom teaching is a challenge, and achieving longevity as a teacher has required a delicate balance. My love of learning, my love of my students, and collaborating with other talented educators has afforded me the opportunity to continuously grow in my practice and find that balance.”

Janice’s Story

Janice started teaching in 1994, and has spent her whole career in the Schodack School District. Starting at Maple Hill Middle School, she taught seventh grade math for a year, then eighth grade math for ten years. In 2005, Janice moved to Maple Hill High School to teach Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. Beginning in 2015, she taught AP Calc, for the first time, and Pre-Calc part time while serving as an elementary school math coach at Castleton Elementary School. In 2020 COVID requirements for class sizes necessitated Janice to return to the classroom full time. Since then, she has been teaching AP Calc, Pre Calc, and Algebra 2. Outside the classroom, Janice serves as the mentor coordinator for and chief negotiator for the Schodack Faculty Association. She has also worked as a content specialist for the NYS education department and AP reader for Calculus.

Throughout her career, Janice has spoken at the Hudson Mohawk Valley Math Conference numerous times, and was selected for the NYS Master Teacher in 2014 and the Schodack Faculty Association’s Teacher of the Year in 2020.

Janice has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Siena College and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from SUNY Albany.

In her free time, Janice enjoys running, biking, and baking. She has also recently become a certified master beekeeper!
