Why Biology

“I believe Biology holds the key to so many of life’s wonders. This world is marvel of logic and elegance and I think diving into science can help us appreciate just how amazing it is.”

Professional Experience

In college, Michelle tutored high school students in math, biology, and chemistry. As a product development and research intern at Deton Corp in Pasadena, California, she worked to develop a less invasive tuberculosis diagnostic device.

After college, Michelle worked as a coordinator for Mackay Coastal Cleanup in Australia.  In this role, she supervised a multi-community beach cleanup and helped run a marine turtle rescue center. She later worked as a corporate client services associate with UniversalGiving.

In summer 2016, Michelle taught chemistry at the Cambridge-Harvard Summer Academy.

Volunteer Experience

Through St. John’s Well Child and Family Center in Los Angeles, California, Michelle assisted doctors and other health professionals in translating health education materials into Spanish.

As a volunteer with Projects Abroad, she conducted diagnostic tests for HIV/AIDS and worked in the tuberculosis clinic, the pre-natal ward and the labor ward in Nairobi, Kenya and in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. While in Lima, Peru, she shadowed doctors and maintained records.


Michelle enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and listening to podcasts as she continues to explore Boston.
