Teaching Discipline

Biology

Why Biology

“Biology is the study of life, and what could be more beautiful and fulfilling?”

Professional Experience

Before she decided to pursue teaching as a full-time career, Addie worked as a research scientist for 10 years. She worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for two years before moving back to Texas. In this role, she focused on researching immunotherapy against aggressive metastatic disease using virally delivered tumor antigens and immunotherapy. Next, she spent four years working as a research scientist in nephrology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Her research focused on the role of the mechanical environment during glomerular health and disease. Additionally, Addie spent three years studying the biochemistry and molecular biology of RNA splicing mechanisms as a post-doctoral research scientist at Trinity University. It is here where Addie uncovered her love of teaching and made the decision to enroll in graduate studies and earn a teaching credential.

Beyond her research work, Addie guest-taught biochemistry and biochemistry labs at Trinity for one year. As an adjunct professor at Trinity, she taught freshman introductory biology labs for one year. While enrolled in graduate school, she taught medical microbiology labs for two years.

Addie will begin her first year of teaching at East Central High School during the 2021–2022 school year.
