We are delighted to announce that Ayanna Perry will participate in the NYC Department of Education’s Professional Day on June 6, 2024! Ayanna will lead a session titled “Exploring Opportunities to Learn Science & Math Through Cognitively Demanding Tasks.”
Students spend over 80% of their classroom time working on tasks. And so, tasks signal what is important to learn, how one should learn, and what counts as important intellectual activity. Our goal is to explore how tasks provide opportunities for students to learn science and math. Teachers will engage in a task, debrief how that task supported opportunities for sensemaking, and analyze an assortment of tasks for features that support varied learning opportunities.
